Solar Power Stations

Alternative ways of obtaining electrical energy are particularly popular today, as they allow businesses and individuals to generate electricity independently of centralized power grids, resulting in significant cost savings and sometimes even earning from it. The most convenient and effective way to achieve this is by installing a solar power station.

By purchasing a solar power station, one can forget about huge electricity bills. Moreover, surplus energy can be sold to the government at Green Tariff rates. However, to implement this idea, it is important to choose the right equipment. What types of solar generators exist, and how do they differ?

Types of Solar Power Stations

Solar power stations are divided into three types based on their inverter equipment, which is responsible for converting direct current from solar panels into alternating current with the required frequency, harmonics, etc. These can be autonomous solutions that work as follows:

  • Solar radiation hits the photovoltaic cells.
  • The produced energy is converted into electric current through the action of electric fields.
  • Electricity is stored in batteries.
  • The inverter transforms direct current into alternating current (220V).

Grid-tied solar power stations operate without batteries and must be connected to an external grid. The generated electricity is redirected to the grid through the inverter. These models are used to compensate for the energy consumption of homes, shops, hotels, recreation centers, as well as industrial facilities.

For grid-tied solar power stations built in private households, the government provides the option to sell excess electricity, which happens automatically and is accounted for by special bidirectional meters. This allows the solar power station owner to recoup their investment more quickly.

For businesses, the situation is ideal, as the construction and operation of their own grid-tied solar power station do not require approvals and permits. They simply purchase less electricity from external suppliers, such as the regional power company. When designing such a solar power station, the company's daytime consumption is taken into account (if necessary, our specialists install consumption monitoring systems), and then a calculation is made to determine the possible power output and the project's payback period.

Building a grid-tied solar power station should be considered carefully, as they cannot act as the sole power source. These solar stations can fully cover energy consumption during daylight hours and the spring-summer period, partially offsetting consumption during the autumn.

Hybrid inverters can manage electricity generation, store excess energy in batteries, and, in case of insufficient energy production, for example, on cloudy and winter days, automatically draw the required amount of electricity from the external grid.

Due to the capabilities of such equipment, the price of hybrid solar power stations is 20-30% higher than that of grid-tied solutions (based on inverter equipment) and requires adding the cost of battery storage. Installing a hybrid system allows for smart resource allocation, not only providing electricity to the consumer (facility) but also selling surplus energy.

How to Determine the Optimal Power of a Solar Power Station?

The power of the photovoltaic field is determined based on the goals, namely: self-consumption compensation during the day/night and selling electricity. In the first case, consumption monitoring is carried out, which is overlaid on the performance graph of the solar power station.

It is important to understand that the solar station generates its maximum output for about 4-5 hours during the day. 80% of the total annual generation occurs during the 6-month spring-summer period. The idea of heating a house solely with solar panels during winter is unrealistic since there is little sunlight during the evening when heating is especially needed. Consequently, the station's performance decreases significantly during those times. Of course, there are solutions that rotate photovoltaic modules in one or two planes, following the sun throughout the day, increasing the solar power station's generation by 40-50%, especially in winter. Additionally, it is necessary to consider that the performance of photovoltaic modules decreases with an increase in temperature. Therefore, when designing a station for selling electricity, it is essential to include extra solar batteries.

Therefore, you should understand the following:

  • The solar power station generates relatively little energy during winter.
  • The most efficient period for the solar power station is during midday hours.
  • A solar power station without an energy storage system will not cover your evening energy consumption.

The specialists at GREEN SYSTEM can calculate the efficiency of the solar power station for your specific needs, necessary investments, payback period, and return on investment for free during business hours. All you need to do is provide data on your energy consumption and potential locations for photovoltaic modules on your premises (the modules should ideally face south, and the tilt angle relative to the horizon depends on the region).

It's not as simple as assuming that your hourly energy consumption will equal the station's power.

There are also nuances in choosing the components for your solar power station with solar batteries.

  • Photovoltaic modules installed on the roof are made of monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and amorphous silicon. Each type differs in efficiency, i.e., the effectiveness of converting solar energy. The most efficient among the three is the monocrystalline silicon panels.
  • The amount of current that the solar power station on solar panels will generate depends on the number of installed photovoltaic converters on the roof or any other surface. Obstacles to solar radiation (tree canopies, the roof or facade of neighboring buildings) are taken into account.

Solar Power Station by "Green System"

The company "Green System" specializes in the design, construction, and installation of solar power stations for private consumers and businesses. As a leader in implementing projects under the Green Tariff (solar power stations up to 30 kW) in Ukraine, we guarantee high-quality "turnkey" service. Take advantage of a consultation with a "Green System" company manager to learn more about solar generators, their types, and differences in operation.

Our activities are not limited to a single region. You can order the design and installation of a solar power station with solar batteries in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and other cities in the country. You can also purchase additional photovoltaic converters and use the service of upgrading an existing solar power station to increase its performance. The cost of implementing such a project is discussed individually with each client.

Importantly, our cooperation with customers does not end with the installation and commissioning of the solar generator. We take care of the maintenance of installations during the warranty and post-warranty period. At any time, you can rely on professional support and technical consultation from our specialists.

Purchasing and installing a solar power station with solar batteries will allow you to protect yourself from disruptions in the centralized power grid. The source of electricity becomes available at any time, all year round.
